Volunteer of the Year Award - 2014: Tom and Lynne Chronert
2014: Tom and Lynne Chronert
For their decades of tireless service to the Notre Dame family, Tom and Lynne Chronert were presented with the 2014 Volunteer of the Year award.
While neither Tom nor Lynne attended Notre Dame, the couple’s involvement with the University began when their son, Stephen ’83, enrolled. Tom and Lynne attended their first meeting of the Notre Dame Club of Orange County in 1979, and they’ve been fixtures within the club ever since.
Their dedication to Notre Dame alumni and friends is evidenced by the sheer volume of their volunteer activities. Both have served multiple terms on the Orange County club’s board, and Tom served as president from 2002 through 2004.
They chair the club’s Senior Alumni lunches, and Lynne founded the Orange County chapter of ND Women Connect. Tom, who currently serves as a regional director on the Notre Dame Senior Alumni Board, also co-founded the ND JIM (Jobs, Internship, Mentoring) program for Notre Dame students who live or want to relocate to Orange County.
Tom and Lynne have seen one son and two grandsons attend Notre Dame. They have influenced so many other past, present, and future Notre Dame graduates by spending countless hours talking to prospective students and their parents about the benefits of a Notre Dame education.
