2012: Roy Seitz, M.D., ’74

 

Roy Seitz  M.D., '74 For his outstanding work as a physician and member of the U.S. Armed Forces, Dr. Roy Seitz, M.D., ’74 was honored with the Dooley Award for 2012.

Seitz was deployed from May 2010-April 2011 in Afghanistan as a battalion surgeon with the U.S. Marines, where he did village work in Helmand Province. He previously served with the U.S. Navy as an instructor in emergency medicine and critical care for Kuwaiti National Forces and U.S. Embassy personnel.

In civilian life, Seitz has had a distinguished career in emergency medicine. After graduating from Notre Dame in 1974, he received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his residency in the University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine. Since 1998, he has been the director of the St. John Medical Center Emergency Department, and he is currently a clinical instructor in emergency medicine at Case Western Reserve University.

Seitz has also served Notre Dame as the president of the Notre Dame Club of Cleveland, Monogram Club representative for the Cleveland area, and as a professional school liaison officer for Notre Dame and the U.S. Navy.
