In recognition of his thirty-five years of active duty military service and fourteen additional years supporting the military from a senior position in industry, retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Robert “Bob” Noonan ’68 was honored with this award.
Noonan's Army career began as a lieutenant in Vietnam, where he advised South Vietnamese units in the Mekong Delta and ended as a Lt. General serving as the Army’s Senior Intelligence Officer in the Pentagon. In between, he enjoyed a challenging career of command and staff assignments in tactical and operational capacities, providing critical support to Army units and organizations in South Korea, Japan, and other Pacific nations, as well as in Germany, the Balkans, the Gulf region, the Horn of Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was known for creating a culture of excellence built on a strong ethical foundation.
After retiring from the Army, Noonan joined Booz Allen Hamilton, where he rose to the position of Executive Vice President, leading a line of business supporting military intelligence organizations around the world. Additionally, he served as a senior advisor to the firm’s Veteran’s Agenda, focusing on support to wounded warriors and their families.
“What does the Corby award mean to me? I am both honored and humbled by this recognition. The fact that the University’s Alumni Association created this award, and all the other awards, speaks volumes to the values that Notre Dame is known for. I’m humbled because there are legions of ND alumni exemplifying the values of our alma mater in very dangerous and critical positions around the world. I was honored to walk among them.”
