In today’s SB Tribune, Tyler James (who’s doing a great job covering Notre Dame recruiting) has a great quote from top recruit Steve Elmer and an interesting stat...
According to Rivals.com, the 6’6, 305 Elmer is the third ranked tackle in the country. He’s from Midland, Michigan. Elmer was the first player to commit to Notre Dame for the incoming 2013 class.
He committed right after watching the game, while IN the Big House, as Michigan scored 28 fourth quarter points to defeat the Irish. Elmer said “I wasn’t coming here because of the record right then. I was coming here because I wanted to get a great education and I wanted to grow my faith and I wanted to be a part of something I believed in.”
Doesn’t he sound like a Brian Kelly RKG (right kind of guy)?
Tyler James also pointed out that 19 of the 22 players to have already joined the 2013 recruiting class (which is ranked in the top handful by all the services) did so before we even played a game during this season. This is certainly a tribute to the coaching staff. It also shows that winning, in and of itself is not the only key to recruiting well. The coaches are now trying to leverage our run to the National Championship to bring in some of the top recruits still left on the table.
