On 9/29/1900, ND defeated Goshen High School, 55-0...

There was very little information in the game account in the Elkhart Truth, but there was mention that (George) Lins had a 95-yard run.  This might seem odd, because he was an end, but I have found that a lot of our early rushing TD’s were by linemen.  In those days, the offensive approaches were different from the rules which came into play after the Roosevelt Commission’s changes in 1905.

In any case, Lins’ run should appear on our list of longest TD’s from scrimmage.

Goshen High School was the 6th of seven high schools that ND played in its early days.  After 1900, we played no more high school teams.
