How many of us have classmates that we haven’t seen in 50 years? The reunion can solve that problem. Here’s one of those stories…
Stan Kaminski and I were Howard Hall mates our sophomore and junior years before spending our senior year in Sorin College. But we hadn’t seen each other for 50 years until Stan emailed me saying that he was coming to the Pacific Shootout at Orange Coast College to watch the #1 Irish Lacrosse team play #8 Maryland on Saturday, March 5, 2016.
While I was on campus getting my second degree in ’67 (and getting married to Carol in Sacred Heart Basilica the day of the 10-10 tie with Michigan State), Stan was there getting his MS in Aerospace Engineering in ’68. After ND, Stan started an internship with the Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA just south of LAX. Turns out the internship lasted 34 years as he retired from the company in 2007 and still lives nearby in Redondo Beach.
In 1979 Stan married Eleanor, a speech pathologist for LA County, and they’ll celebrate 37 years of marriage just after the reunion. They’re big travelers and, unfortunately, will be doing so during the reunion, but Stan did get back to campus for the 50th reunion of ND’s first lacrosse team in 1964. Stan can be reached at email@example.com.
Oh, and by the way, it was a fantastic defensive duel Saturday night as ND & Maryland battled to a 4-4 tie at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Fortunately, the Irish exploded for 5 goals (3 in the last 2 minutes) to remain undefeated going into next Saturday’s big game against Denver, the 2015 NCAA Champions.
