Chair's Corner - August, 2021

Dan Kimball '68, Chair

The start of a new year for the Alumni Association is a good time to look ahead. Local ND clubs and groups will start meeting again in person, tailgaters will return, alums and fans will be following the football team, and we will enjoy opening doors other than the refrigerator.

This edition notes two new Regional Directors on our Board, Augie Grace ‘76 in Florida and Pat Scanlon ‘78 in the Midwest. Two great choices and both are already busy helping us to adjust to another new reality. A gentle reminder that in this coming year we will be actively recruiting replacements for those who will be rolling off the NDSA Board. The regions that will be opening up are Ohio Valley and MidAtlantic. We will also be looking for a new communications director. This could be an internal promotion or a direct three-year appointment. You can always contact me at, your Regional NDSA Director, or our Operations Officer Cindy Lupica at,with any questions or expressions of interest.

The University has announced that visitors to the campus this fall who will be inside any of the buildings will now have to be masked (ND mask policy). A prudent precaution given the way the Delta variant is spreading.  Good news is tailgating is still on, and I hope to see many of you in the parking lot and the stadium.

At our September meeting, the NDSA Board will be looking at “lessons learned” from the past 18 months.  This includes examining the potential for hybrid events, combining virtual and in-person for a single event. Additionally, we hope to expand the traditional approach of promoting our Signature Series Events from a club focus to include both clubs and graduation classes. Not sure where we will end up with these initiatives, but at least it gives me something to write about next quarter.

Till next time, GO IRISH!
