When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! And when a pandemic wipes out a major scholarship fundraiser for our vets and their ND kids, it’s time for some out-of-the-box thinking.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our 6th annual ND Senior Alumni golf event has been transformed from an in-person outing to a virtual fundraising tournament. While we’ll miss congregating at the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame, we’ll all still have the opportunity to raise money for the God, Country, Notre Dame Scholarship that benefits military personnel, veterans, and their children who attend ND.
Gary Sobolewski ’74 has returned to chair this year’s fundraiser and is hoping we don’t skip a beat when it comes to participation and donations. “Since the scholarship began in 2013, we’ve awarded over $67,000 to our students. This year, we’ve set a goal of raising $30,000. The venue for participating may have changed to online, but with the support of our alumni and friends, we’re confident we can reach this objective.”
There are multiple ways for you to participate!
Be a Sponsor: A range of sponsorship opportunities are available. “Individuals, companies, local ND clubs, and groups of grads all have contributed in the past. In fact, this is also a great opportunity for individual classes to compete with each other on raising funds,” states Dan Kimball ’68, current chair of the Senior Alumni Board.
All of the sponsors will receive recognition for their contributions. “Our sponsors’ names and logos are normally visible at the clubhouse and the tee boxes,” explains Jack Bergen ’77, NDSA Communications Chair. “In lieu of that kind of onsite presence, we’re creating a “virtual 19th hole” this year where all of the donors’ information will be shared. We’ll also be thanking them on our NDSA Facebook page and in the November issue of our Golden Domer newsletter which is emailed to ~ 25,000 senior grads.”
The following sponsorships are available: Individual Hole $250; Green Level $1,000; Blue Level $2,500; Gold Level $5,000; and Emerald Level $10,000. You can become a sponsor by contacting Gary Sobolewski at ndsa.engagement.nd.edu. The deadline for sponsorship purchases is currently November 1st.
Buy a Ticket to The Masters Raffle: Once again, we’re pleased to conduct a raffle for a fabulous trip for two to Augusta, GA, this time for the 2021 Masters Golf Tournament taking place April 8-10. “This remains an incredible deal,” states Bergen. “Tickets are $100 each, while the retail value of this trip is $9,000.”
This prize includes two nights lodging in Augusta, admission to a world-class Masters hospitality venue, two Friday Masters tickets along with two commemorative Masters chairs, and more. Only 200 tickets will be sold, so when they’re gone, they’re gone. To purchase tickets and for more information, just go to our 2021 Masters Raffle. (The raffle has been delayed due to in-person restrictions at Augusta - Stay tuned for more info once available)
Last but not least, in November, we’ll be conducting a virtual “19th Hole” event to recognize and thank all of the sponsors and to pull the winning raffle ticket for the 2021 Masters Tournament. This Zoom’ish gathering is tentatively scheduled for mid-November during the 2020 Masters Tournament weekend. We hope to have several special guests in attendance. All sponsors and raffle ticket holders will be invited to join. Note - Delay in starting the Master raffle may push back the timing of this event.
We hope you can find a way to participate in this fundraising effort and help keep scholarship money available for our military and their ND kids! Just click through to God, Country, ND Scholarship to join in.
