2012: Joe Delaney

A retired Director with the firm of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, Joe Delaney was employed for 40 years with this internationally based accounting and professional service organization, located at the World Financial Center in Manhattan. He retired in December 2009 as the Firm’s Director of Northeast Alumni Relations. Joe has an impressive record of involvement with many service organizations, including organizing Deloitte’s United Way Campaign for the New York office for 21 years and serving on the National Board of Directors of Support Our Aging Religious.

Joe’s dedication to the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island and his commitment to community service efforts for the club has been shown in a variety of ways. This includes directing the annual Bread of Life Food Drive, now in its 21st year, which involves 123 schools in raising items of food. The drive has collected over 900,000 items of food for people in need. Joe also leads the club’s annual Christmas Toy Drive that serves The Salvation Army, The New York Foundling Hospital, and The Seamen’s Society.

Joe’s commitment to the Staten Island club has been apparent for many years. He was the first non-alumnus to hold the position of President of the club, and under his leadership, the club won the Lennon award twice. He has organized concerts for the Notre Dame Glee Club and Voices of Faith Gospel Choir that have raised $40,000 for local charities (Twin Towers fund and St. Peter’s School). In April 2002, he received from the University of Notre Dame the first annual Reverend Louis J. Putz Award for his exemplary community service leadership within Staten Island.
