The Harvey G. Foster Award - 2025: Tom Carter III '95
Tom Carter III '95

In recognition of his lifelong commitment to empowering athletes and advancing their well-being on and off the field, the Notre Dame Alumni Association honors Tom Carter III ’95 with the Harvey G. Foster Award.
Carter is a former professional athlete who served as Director of Player Affairs for the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and founded a consulting firm dedicated to helping athletes navigate the business of sports. His advocacy for athletes’ health and well-being continues in his current role as president and CEO of Project LAND (Life After Notre Dame).
Project LAND supports former student-athletes’ personal and professional development through five pillars. Under Carter's leadership, Project LAND has helped hundreds of athletes transition into life after sports.
Before Project LAND, Carter established Carter Alo Consulting to help athletes find reputable representation and improve financial literacy. Carter's consulting firm was inspired by his 15-year tenure with the NFLPA, including serving on the Finance Committee, negotiating the 2012 and 2020 collective bargaining agreements, and managing the annual NFLPA Player Representative Board Meeting. He also created the NFLPA Dues Lockout Fund, contributed to the formation of The Trust, and co-created the NFLPA High School Mentorship Program.
Carter also co-founded and co-chaired Club 2012, an African-American male education initiative, and served as Finance Committee Chair for the Board of Directors of the Holtz’s Heroes Foundation.
A first-round NFL Draft pick in 1993, Carter played nine seasons as a cornerback in the professional ranks. He holds his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame, his MBA from Indiana University, and his doctorate of business administration in economics from Jacksonville University. He has four children and lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with his wife of more than 32 years, Renee.
"Receiving the Harvey G. Foster Award is a deeply humbling honor. It affirms my belief that service, both on and off the field, is where true legacy is built—and I remain committed to lifting others as I was lifted."
