The 2020 Annual Letter - Notre Dame Club of Orange County

Feb 24, 2020

Alumni, Parents, & Friends:

The Notre Dame Club of Orange County (the “NDCOC”) has been recognized as one of the elite clubs in the Notre Dame Alumni Association for many years. This is a result of the breadth and quality of the programs the NDCOC sponsors and the resulting impact on Orange County.  All of this is possible thanks to the financial support and involvement of our members. The new year is upon us and we once ask that, if you haven’t already done so, you renew your membership in or join the NDCOC.  .

Your financial support allows the NDCOC to make a positive impact on Orange County through its sponsorship of, among other things: the local ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) teachers program; the ND Center for Social Concern’s Summer Service Program; the Catholic middle school scholarship program where local 8th graders going on to Catholic high schools are awarded scholarships based on their community service involvement; and the Goodwill of Orange County Faley Special Games (OC’s  alternative version of the Special Olympics).  In addition, the Club provides breakfast every Sunday to over 120 homeless citizens at the Southwest Community Center, and has monthly programs in place at the Orangewood Foundation and Isaiah House.

In other news for 2020, a few months ago the Alumni Association began the conversion from its existing website to a newer and much friendlier version.  The NDCOC was given a leadership position as one of the pilot clubs and is now “live” on this new system at https://orangecounty.undclub.org/.  This new website will enable us to communicate more effectively and enable our members to keep current on and take part in upcoming events.  If you have not done so please register at myndpilot.nd.edu/signup.

The 2020 football season will bring the Fighting Irish football team to Southern California for the biennial contest with USC on Thanksgiving weekend.  NDCOC’s traditional programs including the local pep rally, buses to the game, and access to football tickets are in the planning stages -- look for more information in the coming months.  In addition, the NDCOC is working to obtain tickets for our members to attend key home games at Notre Dame Stadium.  As always, the NDCOC will sponsor game watches at several locations for all the football games.

The annual UND Celebration will be June 8th and feature Dr. Brian Ritchie, founder and leader of the Notre Dame IDEA Center.  Much more to follow on what promises to be a great  event.

In 2020 the NDCOC will once again hold its main fundraiser, the annual golf tournament.  Last year we added “Reds, Whites & Greens,” a putting lesson and wine tasting event in conjunction with the golf tournament.  The idea was to offer an alternative event for those do not play golf but wanted to join the party, and it was a big hit!  Learning from 2019, look for other events with a broader appeal to bring us together (your ideas and input are always welcome).

Thank you for being part of the NDCOC.  To those of you that join, thank you for your financial support and helping enable the Club to be a place where we can all celebrate Notre Dame and make Orange County a better place to live.

Go Irish

The NDCOC Board of Directors
