Here is an update from Kevin Holwerda-Hommes, the Director of Twin Parishes Food Bank.
“Greetings from Twin Parishes Food Bank! We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving!
As we do each year, we handed out Turkeys and other holiday food items last Tuesday and we saw a record number of visits, handing out 235 turkeys in one day! We plan to do the same
This summer and fall, we have seen a 40-50% increase in the number of distributions and are setting records of distributions each month, higher than our peak during the COVID pandemic.
As always, we plan to continue to meet the increased need, which requires more food procurement, volunteer hours, and funds. Many of you are already donating to Twin Parishes and we are so thankful for your support. We invite each of you to consider a donation to help us provide access to healthy and nutritious food for all as we work to alleviate hunger in our community. We welcome one-time donations and also highly appreciate ongoing monthly donors in any amount. A donation as little as $15 dollars per month provides a family with two food distributions in a month.
- $15 per month provides food for 1 family each month
- $30 per month provides food for 2 families each month
- $60 per month provides food for 4 families each month

Donations can be made electronically through this link to our website or by sending a check to Twin Parishes Food Bank at 3663 Humboldt St. Denver, CO 80205.
There are many factors here in metro Denver that have continued to increase the number of visits to food pantries, including the influx of immigrants to the Denver area, the reduction of food stamp payments in the spring of this year, inflated food and transportation prices, and the continued rise in cost and scarcity of housing. We also continue to partner with other organizations in creating and advocating for better food systems and food security for all in Denver. We have been participating in the Building Belonging program through the Food Bank of the Rockies in order to increase the amount of culturally responsive foods we distribute. We also received funds from the State of Colorado to purchase more local and culturally responsive foods, which has been very welcomed by our clients.
If you would like to volunteer at Twin Parishes or come by for a visit, feel free to respond to this email.
Sincerely and With Gratitude,
Kevin Holwerda-Hommes
