Pittsburgh is coached by Pat Narduzzi, who has no love lost for Notre Dame.  That said, his team is in rebuilding mode after Pitt won 20 games the last two years.  Notre Dame transfer (via Boston College) QB Phil Jurkovek shares his head coach’s disdain for Notre Dame.  Jurkovek was replaced by current starter Christian Veilleux a couple weeks ago, and I have seen reports that Jurkovek switched his position to tight end.  I am not sure how trustworthy those reports were. For his part, Veilleux beat Louisville the week after Louisville beat Notre Dame.  So, by the transitive property of college football, Pitt is better than Notre Dame.

FAMILY VOLUNTEER CAMP AT

ANNUNCIATION SCHOOL

CANCELED DUE TO INCOMING

INCLEMENT WEATHER

After consulting with Deb Roberts, Principal of Annunciation School, we have decided to cancel the Family Volunteer Camp scheduled for his Saturday, October 28th.  We will be scheduling an activity at Annunciation in the Spring of 2024.  Thanks to all who considered volunteering and we will be back in touch!

WHO: unranked Pitt (2-5) at AP number 15 Notre Dame (6-2) (Notre Dame Stadium, cap. 77,622)

WHEN: Saturday, October 28, 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: NEW VENUE! Tom’s Watch Bar, 1601 19th Street, Unit 101 Denver, CO 80202

TELEVISION: NBC

PARKING: Atrium Garage, right across the street, 1890 Wynkoop St, Denver, CO 80202.  You can reserve and pay for a spot right now on the Spot Hero app, which is a really impressive piece of technology.  (Atrium is not on the app, so I park at the Dairy Block Garage, a block away.)

ROCKIES GAME: First pitch is at 6:10 p.m., so no conflict

AUBURN: Mississippi State plays at Auburn at 1:30 p.m.  Why do we care?  Because they are the other school that holds watch parties at Tom’s.

BRING: Money for the traditional raffle, and a designated Domer-driver; those buy one, get one free 22-ounce drafts for our club don’t drink themselves!

LIGHT RAIL: three blocks from Union Station!  Several people, including seniors, have commented that the walk from Union Station to Tom’s Watch Bar is very easy.

Many years ago, our Club challenged the Boston College Alumni Club to a “bloodletting” the day of our football game with BC.  We handily dispatched Boston College that day and won the blood donation contest as well!

Thanks to Club Directors Regan Ebert and Bill Webb, the Club is bringing back the “PINT FOR A PINT” BLOOD DRIVE.  Blood donations are traditionally slow this time of year but the demand is just as great if not greater.  We will be partnering with Vitalant Blood Donation to make this all happen.   We are a bit delayed in finalizing the details on how you can participate but stay tuned.  Look for all of the particulars by next week.

On Thursday, November 2nd, all are invited to pray the Rosary and remember our dearly departed at the Grotto at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Denver.  Our service will begin at 10:30 am Denver time to coincide with the prayer service being held at the Grotto on Campus which begins at 12:30 pm Eastern Time.

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is located at 2200 S. Logan Street, Denver, Colorado 80210.  If you cannot attend but would like those in attendance to remember someone on your behalf, please email your intention to Bob Kelley at [email protected] or to Lori Christiansen at [email protected]

For well over 20 years, the Notre Dame Club of Denver has participated in the 9Cares annual drive to help the less fortunate in our Denver Community. Last year the Telethon raised over $800,000 and Channel 9 has set a goal this year of $1,000,000! We can help by manning the phone bank at the Channel 9 studios on Thursday, November 16th. The Club would like to find up to  15 volunteers to take calls at the Channel 9 Studios from 2:00 to 4:30  pm.  The Channel 9 Studios are located at 500 East Speer Boulevard in Denver.  To sign up, please contact Bob Kelley at [email protected] as soon as possible.

Continuing one of our great Club traditions, we will help make Christmas wishes come true for over 250 youngsters in five Denver area parochial schools. We have made Christmas a little brighter for our “Angels'' for over 25 years. If you would like to provide a gift and put a big smile on a youngster’s face, please contact Bob Kelley at [email protected]. There is no greater joy.

Help us play Santa Claus again this year!
