The Lead

Dear Alumni, Parents, & Friends,

Earlier this week, I was reminded just how much I love this time of year. No, not because of the crisp fall temperatures or the changing leaves that have finally painted campus shades of yellow and orange. It was the Tastykakes.

The boxes of these Philadelphia-area snacks were the latest goodies shared with our Alumni Association staff by members of the Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County, along with a few other regional treats: hot bologna and a brew called boilo, which packs a punch! But what the Tastykakes reminded me of was just how wonderful it is to have so many alumni and friends visiting and passing through the office during this season. Not (just) because they often bring treats — oranges from Florida, fudge made by Trappist monks in Kentucky, chocolate buffaloes from New York —  but because we get to forge and strengthen our relationships when we gather as a Notre Dame family.

We’re blessed to have a truly global community, supported by 260 domestic and international clubs that not only bring Notre Dame to cities and regions all over the world, but bring those places to Notre Dame, as well. What local delicacies or traditions make your town home? I can’t wait to learn more about them — and you!

All the best,

Dolly Duffy ’84

“I get to know such resilient human beings and work with them to highlight something that’s really awful and traumatic and help them find a stable path forward. … Where you’re born, that’s just a matter of luck. It’s important to look at the entire person, have compassion, and be willing to truly hear their story.” » Read More on We Are ND
