This week, we continue our Spotlight on David. In his own words, David tells us about his inspirations for Bruton’s Books and how he is pursuing a second career as a physical therapist and owner of Between the Lines Physical Therapy.
BRUTON’S BOOKS

“I created Bruton's Books because I am passionate about education and literacy. I was always considered a nerd in the locker room because I would read during treatment, more specifically in the cold tub. People often ask why I did not do a football camp, and my response to that was I wanted to do something different. I love football, but I love education more and know that sports, at some point, comes to an end. Bruton's Books is an embodiment of who I am, someone who is always trying to learn and I want to address the problem of illiteracy. K-3rd grade is the focal point because after 3rd grade, we read to learn, no longer learning to read. Reading grants the youth opportunities to be successful in school and beyond. I am passionate about reading and believe that readers make great leaders.”
BETWEEN THE LINES
PHYSICAL THERAPY

"Becoming a physical therapist was always a dream of mine since 7th grade. I knew since I walked in the door of a PT clinic that I wanted to be one, that I wanted to help people get back to their life and beyond. I was blessed with the opportunity to have some good PTs and some not so good PTs, all in which I learned something from on what to do or what not to do. Life throws curveballs at you when you have a plan, and football happened to be mine, before and during and after all my schooling. But after I hung it up, before I actually officially retired, I got back into school in Jan 2017. I can honestly say that I was inspired by my experiences with PT as a patient/athlete on the table”
