Did you know Dr. Martin Luther King Jr spoke at Notre Dame? From the University of Notre Dame Archives: “On October 18, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Notre Dame’s Stepan Center. The South Bend Citizens’ Civic Planning Committee organized the event, which was a fund-raiser for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Full-capacity was expected, with faculty, students, and community members in the audience…” You can request to see video of his speech by contacting the Audio Visual Archivist. Additionally, the October 25, 1963 issue of Scholastic magazine featured his visit and his speech on page 13 - you can see a digitized version of the article here.

The City and County of Denver has several events on Monday, January 20th to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King; please refer to this event web page for updates regarding the weather for the outside portion of those events. The City of Aurora has its commemoration detailed here. And the City of Boulder is hosting STILL WE RISE: 3RD ANNUAL DR. KING JR. PERFORMANCE WITH MOTUS & THE REMINDERS on Monday January 20th.

Check out Terence Moore’s January 19, 2025 reflection in Forbes about his November 2024 interview with Coach Freeman. A great takeaway is Coach Freeman’s statement from that interview:

“...You know what, I'm a faithful person, so there's a part of me that feels like God has His hand in everything that goes on in life. But what you can't do is sit here and say, ‘I'm just going to let God handle everything and not do the work.’ “That's the reality of what we focus on, is putting in the work that gives this program the best chance to have success. And that's what everybody has been committed to doing, and that's what we'll continue to do.”
