Useless Trivia Time
Why Is Virgina Referred to as the Wahoos?
Official University of Virginia sports documents explain that Washington and Lee baseball fans first called University of Virginia players "a bunch of rowdy Wahoos," and used the "Wahoowa" yell as a form of derision during the in-state baseball rivalry in the 1890s, presumably after hearing them yell or sing "wa-hoo-wa."[1] The term "Wahoos" spread around the University and was commonly in use by the 1940s. "'Hoos" emerged as an equally commonly accepted nickname at the university and in student publications. Although the terms “Cavaliers,” “Wahoos” and “‘Hoos” are used almost interchangeably to refer to University teams and players, “Cavaliers” is more often used by the media, while “Wahoos” and “‘Hoos” are frequently used by Virginia students and fans.

ND vs Army
Before we get to this week’s game, a quick word about next week’s matchup, which should be fun! We have invited West Point graduates and fans to our game watch at Tom’s, and expect them to be there in numbers! So, we need ND fans to turn out as well! Historically, it’s not been great for countries who have invited an army into their midst, but we are counting on Marcus Freeman and his boys to turn out for that game. More on this next week but circle your calendars; it should be a lot of fun!
ND vs Virginia
What to say about this game? Well, if it’s much of a game, I will be both surprised and disappointed.
Virginia is 5-4 so far this year, and they just knocked off Pitt, who was undefeated until they lost the last two. So, they are not a doormat. However, they’re not that good, either.
The Cavaliers will have one familiar face with them; Notre Dame will be welcoming back WR Chris Tyree, who has had an OK season so far for the visitors.
