PARKING: Good news! We have made it easier (and cheaper) for you to park. The parking garage immediately across the street is 1899 Wynkoop Street. If you want to park there, see these detailed instructions; it is necessary to follow the instructions to get a discounted rate. You can also reserve and pay for a spot right now on the Spot Hero app, which is a really impressive piece of technology. (Atrium is not on the app, so I park at the Dairy Block Garage, a block away.)

BRING: Money for the traditional door prizes, and a designated Domer-driver; those $1 off 22-ounce drafts for our club don’t drink themselves!

LIGHT RAIL: Three blocks from Union Station! Several people, including seniors, have commented that the walk from Union Station to Tom’s Watch Bar is very easy:

The game:

This is going to be an interesting game that the Irish should still win. Navy is undefeated this year, but they play in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), which has been hit by defections in recent years, including Cincinnati, Houston, SMU and UCF. It is safe to say the conference is a shell of its former self. As such, Navy hasn’t played anyone who is any good. The best team they have faced was Memphis. Memphis was down five and driving late in the game when Navy intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, or that game would have been a lot closer and may have even been a loss. That said, Navy is winning its games by an average of four touchdowns this year. And that’s a lot.

We all hope that the Irish will run the table! There is still time to snag some tickets to see them in person!

THE RIP MILLER TROPHY

The Rip Miller Trophy is named after the legendary Rip Miller. Miller was one of Notre Dame’s 7 Mules that blocked for the 4 Horsemen. He then went on to coach for Navy and then became their Athletic Director. He was one of the central figures in the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland sending students to Notre Dame during WWII. This was needed because so many of Notre Dame’s students went off to fight in the war. It saved the school, and it is why Notre Dame and the Navy Midshipmen will play a football game every year until the second coming-and beyond. It’s all about “mutual respect.”

ND Club of Maryland member Peter Trophy (ND ’88) designed the trophy, working with Jason Hardebeck of the Baltimore Chapter of the Naval Academy Alumni Association, and engaged multiple craftsmen to implement the design.

Different from a typical rivalry trophy that is held by the winner each year and inscribed with the score of the game, the Rip Miller Trophy is composed of two symmetric halves, each of which will be inscribed with the names of the team’s captains for each year and will be held by the respective institutions during the year, being reunited whenever possible for the weekend of the annual game. Notre Dame’s half resides in the trophy case outside the Alumni Association office in the Eck Center.
