SPECIAL NOTE FOR THIS WEEK’S WATCH PARTY

We will be collecting food and monetary donations for Meals With Muffet at the Watch Party! See the information about Meals With Muffet below and also ask the Watch Party host for additional information on how to help!

WEEKLY PROGNOSTICATION FROM BILL WEBB, ‘88BA,’92JD - OUR VERY OWN WIZARD OF ALL THINGS NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL

WHO: Louisville at Notre Dame (Notre Dame Stadium, cap. 77,622)

WHEN: Saturday, September 28, 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Tom’s Watch Bar, 1601 19th Street, Unit 101 Denver, CO 80202

TELEVISION: Peacock ONLY (thanks, NBC!)

PARKING: Good news! We have made it easier (and cheaper) for you to park. The parking garage immediately across the street is 1899 Wynkoop Street. If you want to park there, see these detailed instructions; it is necessary to follow the instructions to get a discounted rate. You can also reserve and pay for a spot right now on the Spot Hero app, which is a really impressive piece of technology. (Atrium is not on the app, so I park at the Dairy Block Garage, a block away.)

BRING: Money for the traditional door prizes, and a designated Domer-driver; those $1 off 22-ounce drafts for our club don’t drink themselves!

LIGHT RAIL: three blocks from Union Station! Several people, including seniors, have commented that the walk from Union Station to Tom’s Watch Bar is very easy:

Last week v. Miami:  Well, the first 35% of the game was pretty forgettable.

On to Louisville:

Louisville is pretty good. We lost to them last year, so at least ND is not going to be overlooking them. They are off to a 3-0 start and are looking to earn a repeat trip back to the ACC Championship Game.

They are a run-first team, which is not great for ND as we had issues stopping the run against Miami, at least at first. They rely on this to open up a play action passing game. They run a LOT of play action. Their skill position players are fast and, well, skilled. Expect them to have a lot of explosive plays (they are top three in the country in this respect.

That said, Notre Dame’s pass defense is much better than anything they have faced all season, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

We congratulate the Parseghian Family and the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation (“APMRF”) on the announcement of FDA approval of first two treatments to combat Niemann-Pick Type C Disease, the genetic affliction that claimed the lives of three of Ara’s grandchildren. See the announcement in our University News section below.

Shortly after the formation of the APMRF in 1994, the Notre Dame Club of Denver swung into action to support Coach Parseghian and his family.  Our Denver Club began our support of the APMRF in 1997 when we hosted the Weekend With Ara in cooperation with the alumni groups in Denver from Miami of Ohio and Northwestern.  We continued our participation by hosting  weekend stays with Ara and Katie Parseghian, 3 Fly in For Life Raffles, Irish Hold ‘Em Poker Nights and donating proceeds from our original joint concert of the Notre Dame Glee Club and the Sound of the Rockies, the Concert for Hope.  We also helped organize and support stages for the “Road to Discovery” bike rides across the United States undertaken by former Notre Dame Dean of the College of Science Greg Crawford in support of APMRF.  We will be featuring more about our Club’s close ties to APMRF in upcoming emails.

From the beginning, the Denver Club has held the Parseghian Family close to its heart especially since there is such a strong Colorado connection.  Cindy Buescher Parseghian ‘77, her brother Bernie Buescher ‘71 (former Colorado Secretary of State) and their sister Marcia Buescher Mueller (a former Notre Dame Club of Denver Board Member) are originally from Grand Junction, Colorado.  Cindy married Coach Parseghian’s son Mike Parseghian ‘77 in September of 1977.

From Cindy Parseghian...

“The Notre Dame Club of Denver has walked the path with us from the time our children were diagnosed with NP-C to the recent approval of two drugs for the disorder.  We are forever grateful for the generosity and emotional support the Denver Club has showered on our family and research efforts.”

MEALS WITH MUFFET

A FORCE FOR GOOD CALL TO ACTION

Saturday, September 28

September is Hunger Action Month, and the Notre Dame family is ready to tip off another season of Meals With Muffet! Thanks to your support in 2023, we collected over 131,000 pounds of food and dollars combined to help box out hunger across the U.S.

During September, which is National Hunger Action Month, our Notre Dame Club of Denver is teaming up with the Notre Dame Alumni Association, Coach McGraw, Bread of Life Drive, and Holtz’s Heroes to help feed our neighbors in need. In the United States, more than 37 million people — including 11 million children — are food insecure, and the coronavirus pandemic has caused even more people to seek assistance.

Here in Denver, we’ll be collecting donations — both food and monetary donations — to support the Harvest of Hope Pantry in Boulder, Colorado.  See hopepantry, org  On September 28th, bring your food donations to our Denver Club Football Game Watch and help us box out hunger. Anyone who brings a donation of food items to the game watch or makes a financial financial donation during the game watch will be given a drawing ticket for a chance to win a Muffet McGraw autographed basketball!

If you can’t make it to the game watch, and still want to contribute, you can send a donation directly to Harvest for Help at https://give.hopepantry.org/give/518966/#!/donation/checkout. Participants who also log their donations at mealswithmuffet.nd.edu will receive a Meals with Muffet reusable shopping bag to show off their Irish pride!

For more information about our local drive, email [email protected].  Additional  information can also be found at Home - Meals With Muffet (nd.edu) including a video message from Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Muffet McGraw.
