Free public tours are offered for individual visitors. Groups of 10 or more must arrange for a Private Tour (see below.) Tours are limited to the first 25 people who register within 30 minutes of the tour in person at the Visitors Center. Advance reservations and telephone reservations are not accepted.
The Eck Visitors Center’s free public tour offers a historical and social overview of life at Notre Dame. Most tours will include visits to the Grotto, Basilica of the Sacred Heart*, Main Building (the Golden Dome), and the Hesburgh Library (“Touchdown Jesus”). Tours are not permitted to enter Notre Dame Stadium.
The tours are walking tours, taking approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half covering approximately two miles of campus. A limited number of wheelchairs are available. Please call 574-631-5726 to reserve a wheelchair in advance or inquire at the front desk prior to the start of the tour. A valid driver’s license will be required for rental.
Weather permitting, tours are held Monday through Friday, except on certain holidays and during student breaks. Tour hours and frequency vary depending on the time of year:
*Tours can only enter the Basilica of the Sacred Heart from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. from Monday through Friday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Private tours for groups of 10 or more can be requested to meet your specific needs. Tour requests are subject to student tour guide availability. Tours may not be available during certain times due to limited tour guide availability or campus events. Your tour must be scheduled more than 10 days in advance, and one tour guide is required for every 25 people on the tour. There is a fee of $30 per tour guide. Private tours can be scheduled during the evening hours based on tour guide availability.
